Our interview with: RockStars Music Studios
of Huntington Beach, CA USA

SH: Tell us about your studio.
RockStars Music Studios is a private lessons studio in Orange County, California. We also have a performance academy called Orange County Performance Academy (OCPA) and a rehearsal studio for rent called H.B. SoundStage.

RockStars has a current enrollment of 220 regular, weekly students for guitar, piano, voice, drums and bass. We operate Monday-Thursday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning/afternoon and we have anywhere from 4 to 7 instructors teaching at any given time. Every one of our private students performs in 2 soloist concerts each year.

OCPA operates two five-month concert seasons, Summer and Winter, along with week long summer camps in July and August. OCPA gives, not only our private students at RockStars but, any student in Orange County the opportunity to play in a band with students the same age and ability. OCPA puts on 1-3 concerts per season in some of HB’s most popular venues and for important community events like HB-4th-of-July.

SH: What is your experience, and the style you teach?
We currently have 14 instructors that are professional musicians in the LA area with experience in all genres of music. Our philosophy has always been to develop an individualized curriculum for each student based on their own interests in music. We provide a framework for our instructors to follow that ensures each student is learning the proper technique, notation, rhythm and theory but allow the freedom to explore their own interests as well.

SH: Tell us a little bit about your music studio.

SH: How do you manage your studio?
We have an Office Manager who is the vital link between our school, its instructors, the students and their parents. Many of our students are very busy participating not only in lessons, rehearsals and concerts but with various sports teams as well. Scheduling is a massive undertaking that requires a lot of focus and attention to detail. Studio Helper has definitely brought about some helpful features that keep us organized and running smoothly.

Communication is one of the most important aspects of a business like ours and features like the ability for parents to see their own schedule, send requests to reschedule or read notes about their student’s lessons have been well received and widely utilized.

SH: What are your plans for the future?
Over the next few years, RockStars is looking to expand with more locations in the Orange County/L.A. area. We also want to continue to attract more students that are looking for performance opportunities to participate in concert seasons and summer camps at OCPA.
